You may know him as the founder of Zoho. The Chennai-based software giant impacts millions of businesses around the world. But before writing code or selling cloud solutions, Ajit Krishnan took a very different path. He did not attend Indian Institute of Technology or any prestigious private university. He is on his way to the battlefield.
Krishnan’s education did not begin in the corporate boardroom. It begins in the disciplinary halls of Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), India’s central network of state-run schools. This educational choice is often overlooked on an engineer’s resume, but it had a profound effect on his early life. He went through several KVs before completing his secondary education at KV Yelahanka, Bangalore (now Bangalore).
The transition from civilian training to military training was no accident. This is intentional. Krishnan is a graduate of the National Defense Academy (NDA). This is one of the most prestigious defense establishments in India where cadets undergo not only combat training but also leadership and strategy training under intense pressure.
His last stop was the Air Force Academy in Dundigul, now in Telangana. The competition here is fierce. Only the best succeed. Krishnan didn’t just succeed; He is at the top of his class. He received the President’s Gold Medal and Sword of Honor. These are not participation prizes. These are the highest awards given to cadets for academic and general achievement.

When we think of tech founders, most people think they are either from Silicon Valley or have a computer science degree from a top tech school in Bangalore. Krishnan’s career proves otherwise.
